Raiders DT Tommie Kelly Expects To Be Released

Oakland Raiders DT Tommy Kelly expects to be released before the start of the free agency period on Tuesday.

“The writing is on the wall,” Kelly said, via Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle. “The team is going in another direction. I’m ready for the next chapter. … They’re ready, too.”

Kelly, 32, signed a seven-year, $50.125 million contract back in 2008. He has base salaries of $6.5 million in 2013 and another $7 million in 2014. As things stand right now, his 2013 cap number is $4.8 million, so it would make sense for the Raiders to free up some additional cap space by cutting him loose.

Along with Kelly, DE Richard Seymour DE Matt Shaughnessy, DT Desmond Bryant and  DE Andre Carter are all set to become free agents this Tuesday.
