Raiders Interviewed Kevin Sumlin For OC Job Before Hiring Greg Olson

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Raiders HC Jon Gruden interviewed Kevin Sumlin for their offensive coordinator position before hiring Greg Olson.

Sumlin has since been hired as the new head coach at the University of Arizona.

Alex Marvez previously reported that the Raiders interviewed Sumlin for their WRs coach position, so there appear to be conflicting accounts of what position Sumlin was considered for.

Sumlin, 53, began his coaching career at Washington State back in 1989 as a graduate assistant. He held a number of positions at Wyoming, Minnesota, Purdue, Texans A&M, Oklahoma and Houston before he was hired as Texans A&M’s head coach in 2012.

After six seasons at Texans A&M, Sumlin was fired and replaced by Jimbo Fisher a few months ago.

During his head coaching career at Texas A&M, Sumlin posted a record of 51-26 (66.23 percent) and three bowl wins.
