Raiders Listening To Offers For Khalil Mack, “Very Real” Chance He Could Be Traded

Update:

Mike Silver reports that Raiders owner is not excited about the idea of trading Mack, but HC Jon Gruden is “far more open to it.”

Silver adds that Gruden believes the type of financial commitment it would take to keep Mack could instead be used on multiple players to shore up a flawed defense.

While a trade could happen in the next 24 hours, Silver says it’s “far from a certainty.”

According to Silver, the fact that Gruden and Mack have no relationship doesn’t help the situation. Silver mentions that there are “frayed feelings” as neither has made an attempt to forge a relationship.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that there’s a “robust” trade market for Raiders holdout DE Khalil Mack right now and there are enough teams interested in him where there’s a “very real” chance he could be traded.

  • According to Rapoport, the Raiders are gauging and listening to trade offers for Mack right now. Rapoport says the belief is that the Raiders have four or five teams directly engaged in trade talks.
  • Jason La Canfora confirms that NFL teams have “legit begun jockeying for position to try to land Khalil Mack” in a trade. La Canfora says he would be far more surprised if Mack is not traded at this point.
  • Jim Trotter of NFL Media also hears that the Raiders are receiving offers for holdout DE Khalil Mack weighing them.

The Browns and Jets reportedly have serious interest in acquiring Mack and other teams such as the Packers, Bears and 49ers among others have come up as speculative landing spots.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media recently reported that “a lot” of teams have contacted the Raiders about a potential trade for Mack in recent days.

According to Pelissero, the Raiders have received multiple offers for Mack including a first-round and another high selection.

Sources around the NFL have told Pelissero that they believe the Raiders would want at least two first-round picks in order to even start serious trade talks. This is on top of the massive contract extension it’s going to require to get Mack signed long term.

Mack is clearly a game-changing talent, but it could be a lot for a team to part with multiple high-end picks on top of the massive contract extension it’s going to take to keep him long term.

Even so, this is at least something to watch in the coming days.

Mack, 27, is a former first-round pick of the Raiders back in 2014. Mack played out the final year of his four-year, $18,677,002, but the Raiders picked up his fifth-year option last April.

Mack is in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2019. Oakland will have their franchise tag available to use on Mack in 2019 if they don’t get a long-term extension done.

In 2017, Mack appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and recorded 78 tackles, 10.5 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and three pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6 edge defender out of 1086 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
