Raiders Notes: Derek Carr, GM Job, Mark Davis

Derek Carr

As for Raiders QB Derek Carr‘s future with the team, Raiders owner Mark Davis told reporters they would have to “ask Jon [Gruden].

You’d have to ask Jon [Gruden] … or the general manager. I don’t make the player decisions,” said Davis, via Brandon George.

  • Albert Breer expects Derek Carr to be back as the Raiders’ starting quarterback in 2019, despite some speculation in recent months that he could be made available during the offseason.
  • Breer mentions that Carr has gotten a lot better over the last three months and has benefited from being coached hard this season.

GM Job

  • Regarding the Raiders’ GM vacancy, Albert Breer reports that the team is expected to pursue an exec with the chops to push back on HC Jon Gruden.
  • Breer tosses out Patriots executive Nick Caserio and former Redskins GM Scot McCloughan as two candidates he believes would make sense.
  • For what it’s worth, McCloughan recently said he isn’t interested in pursuing a GM job right now.

Mark Davis

Raiders owner Mark Davis said recently traded Cowboys WR Amari Cooper was “very quiet” while in Oakland.

I had that perception as well. He was very quiet,” said Davis, via Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.

Though Davis said he may regret trading Cooper one day, he does not think the receiver fit Jon Gruden‘s scheme.

In the future, we might be saying, ‘Damn!’,” said Davis, via Brandon George. “We always had the fastest guy on the field no matter what. I think [my dad] would have loved Amari, but it just didn’t work out in our system.
