Raiders HC Jon Gruden told reporters on Tuesday that GM Mike Mayock been in contact with C Rodney Hudson’s agent regarding a new contract.
“We consider him a big piece of this franchise. We’re going to do everything we can to keep him here a long time,” Gruden said of Hudson, per Michael Gehlken.
Hudson, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2011. He out his four-year, $3,506,100 rookie contract in Kansas City before agreeing to a five-year, $44.5 million contract with the Raiders for the 2015 season.
Hudson stands to make a base salary of $8.25 million for the 2019 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2018, Hudson appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and is rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 4 center in the league out of 38 qualifying players.

I’ve been very happy with the Raiders offseason so far, but the one big thing I’ve wanted done is an extension for Hudson. Absolutely love everything about Hudson. One of the most underrated players in the league.
