Raiders Re-Sign LB Brandon Marshall, Two Others

Adam Schefter reports that the Raiders are re-signing veteran LB Brandon Marshall on Tuesday.

Oakland is also signing LB Will Compton and signing OL Erik Magnuson off of Buffalo’s practice squad, per Scott Bair.

Raiders HC Jon Gruden said recently that they were looking to bolster their depth at linebacker, due to the injuries they’ve been dealing with.

Marshall spent the summer in Oakland, so this move makes a lot of sense for both parties.

Marshall, 29, is a former fifth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2012. However, he lasted just over a year in Jacksonville before he was waived at the start of the 2013 season and later signed to the Broncos practice squad.

Denver brought Marshall back for the 2016 season on a one-year, restricted tender before eventually agreeing to a five-year, $34.553 million contract that includes $20 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $6.5 million for the 2019 season when the Broncos declined his option.

Marshall signed a one-year contract with the Raiders this past March, but wound up being released coming out of the preseason.

Compton, 29, signed on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska back in 2013. However, the team waived him shortly after and signed him to their practice squad once he cleared waivers.

The Redskins promoted him to their active roster at the end of the 2013 season and he played out the rest of his rookie deal with the team. Compton signed a one-year deal with the Titans worth up to $2 million last year before joining the Saints in August.

Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve coming out of the preseason and released with a settlement earlier this year.

In 2018, Compton appeared in 12 games for the Titans, recording 12 total tackles, one forced fumble and one pass defense.
