Raiders Worked Out TE Rob Housler

Adam Caplan reports that the Oakland Raiders brought in free agent TE Rob Housler for a workout on Wednesday.

The Raiders ultimately elected to promote TE Ryan O’Malley to their active roster to replace TE Lee Smith, who was placed on injured reserve.

This comes just a day after Housler worked out for the Packers, so there appears to be decent amount of interest in him right now.

Housler, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals who played out his rookie contract with the team. The Browns wound up signing him to a one-year, $1.76 million contract back in April of last year, but Cleveland wound up waiving him from their I.R. in November.

The Bears later signed him to a contract and decided to extend him for another year in March. Unfortunately, Chicago elected to release him last month.

In 2015, Housler appeared in 10 games and recording four receptions for 33 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
