Rams Sign QB Blake Bortles To One-Year Deal

Update:
Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Rams signed QB Blake Bortles to a one-year contract worth $1 million.

Bortles will still make $6.5 million from the Jaguars in 2019 and Jacksonville will receive a $1 million credit as an offset from the salary he’ll make with the Rams.

Jeff Darlington of ESPN reports that the Rams and QB Blake Bortles are finalizing a contract that will make him Jared Goff‘s backup for the 2019 season.

The Rams have already announced that they’ve signed Bortles to a one-year contract.

The Rams brought Bortles in for a visit on Monday and it appears as though things went well enough for them to get a deal done.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Bortles to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Bortles, 26, was taken with the No. 3 overall pick by the Jaguars back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $20,654,796 rookie contract when the Jaguars picked up his fifth-year option.

Jacksonville elected to sign Bortles to a three-year, $54 million contract that included $26.5 million guaranteed. However, they cut him loose last week after signing Nick Foles to a contract.

In 2018, Bortles appeared in 13 games for the Jaguars and completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 2,718 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has also rushed for 365 yards and a touchdown.
