Rams Place S T.J. McDonald On I.R. & Promote DB Eric Patterson

The St. Louis Rams officially placed S T.J. McDonald on season-ending injured reserve and promoted DB Eric Patterson to their active roster on Friday, according to the NFL transactions release.

Reports from earlier this week mentioned that McDonald and DE Robert Quinn were both likely to be placed on injured reserve, so this shouldn’t come as a major surprise.

McDonald, 24, is in the third year of his four-year, $2.926 million rookie contract that included a $648,000 signing bonus. He’ll make a base salaries of $624,426 and $730,037 over the remainder of the contract.

This season, McDonald has appeared in 11 games and recorded 63 tackles, one sack, a forced fumble, a recovery and a pass defense for St. Louis.

Patterson, 22, originally signed on with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Ball State following this year’s NFL draft. However, he lasted just a month in New England before he was waived and later signed to the Colts’ practice squad.

The Rams elected to sign him to their practice squad a few months ago.

This season, Patterson has appeared in one game and recorded two tackles for the Colts.
