Rams Were Targeting WR Justin Blackmon

Yahoo! Sports’ Mike Silver reports that Rams head coach Jeff Fisher actually slammed his eyeglasses to the table and uttered a one-syllable expletive after the Jacksonville Jaguars moved up one spot ahead of them to take WR Justin Blackmon.

Silver adds that the Rams were also targeting RB Trent Richardson, but Blackmon seemed like the more likely player to be available to them. St Louis reportedly had “no interest” in LT Matt Kalil and DT Michael Brockers was listed as their next best player. The Rams were still able to move down and acquire some additional draft picks in the process, so things worked to some extent.

The Rams are the team to watch tonight as they have three of the first-twelve picks. They should be able to find a receiver there.

  1. As much as I wanted Blackmon, I think it actually worked out pretty good. The Rams have such a wide variety of needs. The extra picks aquired thru trades no doubt helped them fill multiple needs. The Rams are more than one good player away from being good again. Even if ALL this weekends picks pan out, they need veteran help as well. The more pieces added to the puzzle, the quicker they can compete.

    • Great point! You have to feel good about the number of quality players that they’ve added to their roster. The two young WR’s could end up becoming great players for them and they now have a completely rebuilt secondary. Add in the fact that their interior defensive line is both younger and more athletic and it really looks like they’re moving in the right direction. The extra 1st round picks should help as well. They have to be one of the more intriguing teams. I’d actually like to see them on Hard Knocks to see how things play out.
