Ravens DC Don Martindale Candidate To Watch For Giants Head Coaching Vacancy?

According to Pat Leonard, Ravens DC Don “Wink” Martindale has emerged as a name to watch for the Giants head coaching vacancy — particularly after New York’s reported top candidate Matt Rhule was poached by the Panthers.

Leonard writes Martindale has impressed the Giants the most out of the candidates who have interviewed so far. Ralph Vacchiano echoes that Martindale impressed in his interview and mentions Martindale told the Giants he would hire LSU OC Joe Brady on his staff in the same role if he were to get the position.

While Vacchiano says Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy was also impressive in his interview, he adds the Giants are leaning toward a new head coach with a defensive background.

Former Cowboys HC Jason Garrett also becomes a more viable option for the Giants now.

Martindale, 56, began his coaching career in 1986 as the defensive coordinator at Defiance. He later took his first NFL coaching job with the Raiders in 2004.

After a few years with the Broncos, Martindale joined the Ravens as their linebackers coach and was eventually promoted to defensive coordinator in 2018.

In 2019, the Ravens’ defense ranked No. 4 best in yards allowed, No. 3 in points allowed, No. 5 in rushing yards allowed and No. 6 in passing yards allowed.

We’ll have more on the Giants coaching search as the news is available.
