Update:

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports that Ravens S Matt Elam will need to undergo surgery to repair a torn biceps.

Indications have been that Elam would likely need surgery to repair the injury, and even HC John Harbaugh told reporters that he wasn’t optimistic about the situation, so this doesn’t come as a complete surprise.

Elam would likely be out for the entire 2015 season following the procedure, which is disappointing for all parties given that he was expected to take a big step forward in 2015.

David Chao mentions that there’s at least a chance that the Ravens could place him on injured reserve with the designation to return. Although, Elam is looking at a 3-4 month recovery.

Elam, 23, has two years remaining on his four-year, $6.767 million rookie contract that included $5.439 guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $1,020,182 and $1,327,773 over the remainder of the agreement.

In 2014, Elam appeared in all 16 games for the Ravens and recorded 50 tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 78 cornerback out of 87 qualifying players.
