The Baltimore Ravens announced the signing of WR Joe Morgan on Wednesday, along with their decision to place WR Steve Smith on season-ending injured reserve in a subsequent move.

Smith, 36, has two years remaining on his three-year, $10.5 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $3 million this year and next.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that the Ravens plan to sign veteran WR Joe Morgan to a contract on Wednesday.

  • According to Werder, first-round WR Breshad Perriman is still “weeks away” from returning.

Morgan was one of three receivers to work out for the Ravens on Tuesday along with Chuck Jacobs, and Hakeem Nicks.

Morgan, 27, signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Walsh back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract and later signed a one-year deal worth $495,000 with New Orleans in March of last year.

Morgan  wound up being among the Saints final roster cuts a month ago, but has been on and off of the team’s roster since then.

In 2014, Morgan appeared in five games and caught just four passes for 92 yards receiving to go along with one rush for 67 yards.
