Redskins LT Trent Williams Not At Mandatory Minicamp, Wants New Deal

Redskins LT Trent Williams was not in attendance for the start of the team’s mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.

According to Ian Rapoport, Williams wants a new contract, as his old deal is outdated by current market standards.

Back in April, Rapoport reported that the Redskins expect Williams to be ready for training camp after a medical scare involving a growth or tumor on his head.

Rapoport mentions that Williams has had the growth removed.  Doctors were worried it was malignant, but Rapoport says Williams should be unaffected once he recovers.

Williams missed time last season with thumb, knee and rib injuries. He played through a torn patellar tendon during the 2017 season.

Williams, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Redskins back in 2010. He currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $66 million contract that includes $43.25 million guaranteed and stands to make base salaries of $11 million and $12.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Williams started 13 games for the Redskins.  Pro Football Focus rated Williams as the No. 21 tackle out of 80 qualifying players.
