Pro Football Talk first reported that the Redskins have signed former Colts DL Ricky Jean Francois to a three-year contract.
- Adam Schefter reports that Jean Francois’ contract is worth $9 million and includes $4 million guaranteed.
- Jean Francois can make a total of $11.25 million if he reaches the incentives in the agreement.
From the looks of it, Jean Francois receives a similar contract to that of Titans DL Sammie Lee Hill, who secured a three-year, $11.4 that included $4,000,000 guaranteed.
Jean-Francois, 28, was released by the Colts in a move that freed up $4.875 million in cap space.
Even though he was just released, numerous reports said that a number of teams were interested including the 49ers and Seahawks.
It’s worth mentioning that Jean-Francois offers some versatility and won’t count against the team’s compensatory draft picks, considering that he was a street free agent.
Last year, Jean-Francois appeared in all 16 games and recorded 28 tackles, three sacks, a fumble recovery and six pass defenses for the Colts. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 26 defensive end in a 3-4 system out of 47 qualifying players.
We had Jean-Francois listed as the No. 72 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
