Redskins Worked Out Nine Players

According to Aaron Wilson, the Redskins brought in nine players for workouts on Friday, including TEs Rico Gathers, Clive Walford and Gabe Holmes.

The full list of tryouts includes:

  1. OLB Tashawn Bower
  2. TE Rico Gathers
  3. OLB Porter Gustin
  4. DE Dewayne Hendrix
  5. TE Gabe Holmes
  6. QB Chase Litton
  7. OLB Carroll Phillips
  8. TE Will Tye
  9. TE Clive Walford

Gathers, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Cowboys back in May of 2016. He was, unfortunately, cut loose coming out of the preseason and later signed to the team’s practice squad at the start of the regular season.

Dallas brought Gathers back on a future/reserve contract in 2017 but he was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a concussion during the preseason. The Browns signed him to a contract during the preseason before waiving him a few weeks into the regular season.

In 2018, Gathers appeared in 15 games for the Cowboys and caught three passes for 45 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

Walford, 27, is a former third-round pick out of Miami by the Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3.345 million rookie contract and made a base salary of $822,800 for the 2018 season.

The Raiders elected to place Walford on waivers last April and he signed on with the Jets soon after, but was waived from New York’s injured reserve in August.

In 2017, Walford appeared in 13 games for the Raiders and recorded nine receptions for 80 yards receiving and no touchdown.

Holmes, 27, wound up signing on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue back in May of 2015. He managed to make the 53-man roster coming out of preseason but was cut loose just a few weeks later.

Holmes had brief stints with the Seahawks and Ravens before signing on to their practice squad in 2017. He signed a futures deal with the Colts back in January but was among their final roster cuts.

In 2018, Holmes appeared in eight games for the Cardinals but did not record any statistics.
