Report: 2015 Salary Cap Could Be Has High As $141.8M

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that the NFL Management Council informed teams at league meeting on Tuesday that the 2015 salary cap is projected to be between $138.6 million and $141.8 million.

  • La Canfora believes it could ultimately end up even higher than that.

Just for some perspective, the 2014 salary cap was set at $133 million, so this would be an increase of around 6.6 percent if the $141.8 million proves to be accurate.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported back in March that 2015 salary cap could be as high as $145 million, and possibly climb even higher the following year to around $160 million.

The Thursday Night Football with CBS is expected to a large impact on future salary caps, as the owners and players agreed to a 50-50 revenue split during CBA negotiations several years ago.

There has been some talk that NFL and the Players Association could negotiate gradual salary cap increases so that there wasn’t a huge spike that led to free agency period that produced inflated contracts.

Here’s a breakdown of each’s teams current cap space.

We should be hearing much more about the 2015 salary cap in the coming weeks.
