Report: 49ers In Talks With WR Brandon Lloyd Regarding Return To The NFL

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, citing multiple sources, reports that the 49ers are in talks with veteran WR Brandon Lloyd about possibly returning to the NFL next season.

According to Maiocco, the 49ers are still in the market for wide receiver after they missed out on a number of free agents this offseason.

Maiocco believes Lloyd would have to earn the No. 3 receiver job in order to secure a roster spot with the 49ers this season. Second-year receiver Quinton Patton also figures to be in the mix for the job, and the team could use one of their numerous draft picks on a receiver as well.

Lloyd, 32, wound up sitting out the entire 2013 season after he was released by the Patriots back in March of last year. There was some minimal interest in him, but nothing ever progressed all that far.

In 2012, Lloyd appeared in all 16 games for New England and caught 74 passes for 911 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
