Report: 49ers Leaning Towards Not Franchising S Dashon Goldson

CSN Bay Area reports that various league sources have informed them that the 49ers areย leaning toward not using theirย franchise tag on Sย Dashon Goldsonย for the secondย consecutiveย season.

When asked about the team’s plan to use the franchise tag, GM Trent Baalke had this to say:

“(I) don’t have an answer for that. Whether we use the tag or not, I really don’t know at this point. I think I do know, but I’m not willing to share it at this time.”

Goldson, a two time Pro-Bowler, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent for the third-straight offseason and is obviously looking to secure a long-term deal. Franchising Goldson would run themย $7.45 million, which includes a 20 percent increase.

The team has eight days left to think about applying the franchise tag on Goldson before the March 4 deadline, although it appears that the team will not rely on it.

We have Goldson listed as the No. 9 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
