Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that 49ers OLB Aldon Smith will not face charges stemming fromย an incident that occurred atย LAX back in April.
Smith was arrested forย making a false bomb threat at the airport and was later releasedย on $20,000 bond.
The incident took place afterย Smith wasย randomly selected to be screened atย the airport security gate. According to previous reports,ย Smithย ย became “belligerent and uncooperative” and mentioned that he was inย possession of a bomb.
Smith is also facingย three felony weapons charges and a DUI, so there is still a good chance that he will receive a suspension to start the season. Smith has pleadย no contest to these charges.
San Francisco picked up Smith’s fifth-year option a few months ago, which is a pretty good indication that he remains in their long-term plans as long as he can prevent any new off-the-field issues from occurring.
Smith, 24, appeared in 11 games for theย 49ers last year and totaledย 34 tackles and 8.5 sacks.ย Pro Football Focusย had him rated as the No. 5 outside linebacker in a 3-4 system last year.
