Report: 49ers Trying To Trade ILB Michael Wilhoite

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, citing multiple sources, reports that the 49ers are trying to trade ILB Michael Wilhoite.

According to a league source who spoke with Barrows, the 49ers are looking for a sixth- or seventh-round draft pick in return for Wilhoite.

Barrows mentions that while Wilhoite has been value player on both defense and special teams, he’s currently buried on the team’s depth chart.

San Francisco’s current group of inside linebackers consist of Patrick Willis, NaVorro Bowman, Chris Borland, Nick Moody and Shayne Skov, so you can see why they would see what they can get for Wilhoite.

Wilhoite, 28, is set to be an exclusive rights free agent, so he would come with a very reasonable contract.

Last year, he appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 87 tackles, one forced fumble, two interceptions and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 inside linebacker out of 60 qualifying players.
