Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, citing a source, reports that the Bears and former Giants S Ryan Mundy are “close” to finalizing a deal.
Mundy, 29, spent last season with the Giants, recording 77 tackles, one sack, and one interception. Mundy spent the previous four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Chicago is in need of serious help at the safety position, as the 2013 starters Chris Conte and Major Wright struggled mightily. Wright is a free agent and is not expected back.
Pro Football Focus ranked Mundy 37th out of 86 qualifying safeties for the 2013 season.
