Bears DE Willie Young Has A Torn Achilles

Update:

Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports that Bears DE Willie Young does, in fact, have a torn Achilles tendon.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the preliminary diagnosis for Bears DE Willie Young is that he has a torn Achilles tendon.

Florio adds that Young will have an MRI on Monday, but it’s clear he won’t be available for Week 17’s game.

Young has proven to be the Bears best free agent signing, so it would be disappointing if he sustained a major injury towards the end of the year.

Young, 29, signed a three-year, $9 million contract that included $3.95 million guaranteed with the Bears back in March. He has base salaries of  $2.45 million coming his way over the remainder of his contract.

Entering Sunday’s game, Young had recorded 40 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and a forced fumble over the course of 14 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 58 qualifying players.
