Report: Browns Interested In Nate Solder If They Can’t Get Deal Done For Trent Williams

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports hears the Browns have interest in trading for Giants LT Nate Solder if they’re unable to complete a deal with the Redskins for Trent Williams.’

The Browns are looking to find a real solution at left tackle due to the struggles of Greg Robinson this season. Recent reports have said that Cleveland has made multiple attempts to trade for Williams, but the Redskins have resisted their overtures and are planning to keep him, despite the fact that he’s still holding out.

La Canfora notes that the Browns and Giants have worked out trades earlier in the year for some key players including Odell Beckham Jr, Olivier Vernon, Kevin Zeitler and Jabrill Peppers

Solder, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Patriots back in 2011. He played seven seasons for the Patriots before agreeing to a four-year, $62 million contract with the Giants last year.

Solder stands to make base salaries of $5.4 million and $9.9 million over the next two years of the deal.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading would free up $5.5 million of available cap space while creating $6.5 million in dead money.

In 2019, Solder has appeared in seven games for the Giants and made seven starts for them at left tackle. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 35 offensive tackle out of 72 qualifying players.
