Report: Chargers Exercised DT Corey Liuget’s Fifth-Year Option

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Chargers have exercised DT Corey Liuget‘s fifth-year option.

Liuget remains an extension candidate as he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract and will make just $758,964 for the 2014 season. His fifth-year option will pay him $6.969 million, but it’s a non-guaranteed figure.

Liuget, 24, appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers last season and totaled 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 32 defensive end in a 3-4 system last year, but he was rated as one of the best in terms of pass rush.
