Report: Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson & DE Mike Devito Suffer Ruptured Achilles

Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed after Sunday’s game that ILB Derrick Johnson and DE Mike Devito both ruptured their Achilles’ tendon’s.

This will almost certainly end their season and leaves the Chiefs’ defense in bad shape moving forward.

ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that Chiefs ILB Derrick Johnson suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Sunday’s game against the Titans.

Johnson had to be carted off the field after he went down with the injury. Kansas City is already without LB Joe Mays, so this is hardly the type of news they were hoping for.

An Achilles tear would almost certainly end Johnson’s season.

The Chiefs currently have James Michael-Johnson and Josh Mauga on their roster, but it would make sense to see them make a few calls next week.

Johnson, 31, is in the fifth year of his six-year, $36.475 million contract that includes $15 million guaranteed. His base salary for the 2014 season is $3 million.

Last year, Johnson recorded 107 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Not a good situation for KC. Depth will really be tested.
