ESPN’s Adam Caplan reports that ChiefsĀ ILB Derrick Johnson suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Sunday’s game against the Titans.

Johnson had to beĀ carted off the field after he went down with the injury. Kansas City is already without LB Joe Mays, so this is hardly the type of news they were hoping for.

An Achilles tear would almost certainly end Johnson’s season.

The Chiefs currently haveĀ James Michael-Johnson and Josh Mauga on their roster, but it would make sense to see them make a few calls next week.

Johnson, 31, is in the fifth year of hisĀ six-year, $36.475 million contractĀ that includesĀ $15 million guaranteed. His base salary for the 2014 season isĀ $3 million.

Last year,Ā Johnson recorded 107 tackles, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
