Report: Cleveland Browns Work Out Central Florida QB Blake Bortles

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports, and a source confirmed, that the Browns held a private workout for QB Blake Bortles on Wednesday.

  • Cabot added that Browns GM Ray Farmer, HC Mike Pettine, Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan and Quarterbacks Coach Dowell Loggains were all in attendance.

The Browns have the No. 4 and No. 26 picks in the 2014 NFL Draft, and many believe they could be targeting a quarterback with one of those selections.

New HC Mike Pettine seems particularly intrigued.

He has all the measurables,” Pettine said at the NFL Annual Meeting last week. “If you look at him, if you said draw me an NFL quarterback, that’s probably who you’d draw. I think the thing that’s impressive about him is his ability in crunch time in a lot of tight games, a lot of come-from-behind wins, you can see he’s confident, can make all the throws, I think he’s a better athlete than some people give him credit for.”

The Browns currently have Brian Hoyer and Alex Tanney at the quarterback position, after releasing Brandon Weeden and not bringing back Jason Campbell.
