Ian Rapoport tweets that former Raiders first-round pick QB JaMarcus Russell is attempting a comeback and could show up at this year’s NFL Combine.
Russell is reportedly 305 lbs right now, but is hoping to get down to a more reasonable 265 in the near future.ย Rapoport adds that Russell is “serious this time.”
This is admittedly ridiculous, but Rapoport insistsย that Russell is “serious this time” about making a comeback to the NFL.
โMy first year out, I couldnโt watch football but after a while, I couldnโt keep the TV off. I got that itchy feeling but now I gotta watch it, gotta watch,โ Russell told Yahoo! Sports.
โThe last few years, the things going through my life, football is my job and it is how it feeds my family. People would say [that] I didnโt love the game but that pisses me off. People donโt know the real you but I want people to know the real me and see what I can do. People are always saying that Iโm a bust. I want show them Iโm not. Iโm committed to this now.โ
Russell, 27, has been out of the league since 2009 and last tried out for an NFL team in 2010. He’sย widely considered to be the biggest bust ofย all-time, which makes it hard to imagine that any NFL team will even consider the idea of bringing him in for a workout.ย Russellย obviously has plenty of work ahead of him to even reach his goal of 265 pounds.
