James Jones Would “Love” To Play For The Panthers

Packers free agent WR James Jones tells ESPN’s Josina Anderson that he would “love” to play for the Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton next year.

“I would love the opportunity to play for the Carolina Panthers,” Jones tells Anderson. “I would love to play with Cam (Newton).”

Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer previously reported that the Panthers are “keeping tabs” on Jones.
Person notes that Jones has the same agent as Panthers’ HC Ron Rivera.

Jones would make sense for the Panthers given that he has been a consistently productive receiver in Green Bay and could come at a reasonable price.

The Jets, Colts, Giants and Lions have come up as other potential options for Jones.

Jones, 29, was able to produce a staggering 14 touchdowns two years ago. In 2013, Jones caught 59 passes for 817 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Manish Mehta reports that the Jets have “real interest” in free agent WR James Jones.

Mehta adds that a visit hasn’t been scheduled up to this point, as Eric Decker is currently meeting with the Jets.

The Chargers, Colts, Dolphins, Giants and Lions have also been mentioned as speculative options for Jones.

Pauline adds that Dolphins, Giants, Jets and a fourth team are still after Jones.

Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reports that free agent WR James Jones is drawing “heavy interest” from the Detroit Lions and New York Jets.

Pauline adds that Green Bay Packers could still be in the mix for Jones.

Jones previously mentioned that he has considered playing for the Colts and Chargers, depending on how things play out with the Packers.

“I’ve thought about places that I would like to go play, whether it’s in Indy or there’s coming back home, San Diego or somewhere,” Jones said “Teams have popped up in my head. I can’t say I haven’t thought about it, but in a perfect world I’d love to go back (to Green Bay).”
