Report: Redskins HC Jay Gruden Could Be Fired If They Lose To Giants

Les Carpenter of the Washington Post, citing two sources with knowledge of the situation, reports that Redskins HC Jay Gruden could be fired if they don’t beat the Giants on Sunday.

The Redskins are currently 0-3 on the season, but Gruden has remained optimistic that they can still turn things around.

“I’ve seen a guy walk on the moon, for God’s sakes,” Gruden said recently. “Surely an 0-3 team can come back from the depths of 0-3 and put on a nine-, 10-game streak and win 10 of their last 13 games. It’s not that big of a deal, right?

Earlier in the week, Gruden told reporters he doesn’t feel like he’s coaching for his job week to week and doesn’t anticipate making any changes to the coaching staff, per JP Finlay.

As of now, the Redskins are -3 to beat the Giants on the road, according to Vegas Insider.

Gruden, 52, began his NFL coaching career with the Buccaneers as an offensive assistant. He spent seven years in the position before departing for a job with the Florida Tuskers.

Gruden returned to the NFL as the Bengals offensive coordinator in 2011 before he was hired as the Redskins coach for the 2014 season.

During his five years in Washington, Gruden has led them to a record of 35-47-1 (42.8 percent), which includes one playoff appearance back in 2015.

We’ll have more regarding Gruden as the news is available.
