Report: Saints Haven’t Released RB Pierre Thomas, Still A Chance He Could Be Back Next Year

Saints DB Malcom Jenkins indicated this morning, via his Twitter account, that the team was releasing RB Pierre Thomas.

However, Ian Rapoport reports that the Saints have not released Thomas, and there is still a chance that he could be brought back on a new contract.

  • Lamont Smith adds that things are still “status quo” regarding Thomas and the Saints.

New Orleans has already released WR Lance Moore and could be parting ways with RB Darren Sproles either by trade or by releasing him outright in the coming days.

Thomas’ name also came up as a potential trade candidate as the Saints work to free up some much needed cap space.

Lamont Smith, the agent for Thomas, told The New Orleans Times-Picayune a few weeks ago that the Saints has reached out to his client regarding his future with the team, but didn’t say if they were considering releasing or trading him.

Last year, Thomas totaled 549 yard rushing and another 513 yards receiving and five total touchdowns over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has Thomas rated as the No. 13 running back in the league last season.
