Saints Claim LB Jonathan Freeny, Waive CB Sterling Moore

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Saints have claimed LB Jonathan Freeny off of waivers from the Patriots and waived CB Sterling Moore on Thursday.

Freeny, 28, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers back in 2011. He spent four years in Miami before signing on with the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent in 2015.

The Patriots signed him to a two-year contract extension coming out of the preseason last year, only to release him as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players. Freeny had brief stints with the Jaguars and Ravens before returning to the Patriots last week.

Unfortunately, New England elected to cut him loose yesterday.

In 2017, Freeny has appeared in four games and recorded four tackles and no sacks for interceptions.

Moore, 27, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Methodist back in 2011. However, he lasted just a few months in Oakland before he was waived a few weeks into his rookie season.

Moore bounced around a bit with the Patriots, Cowboys, Buccaneers and before signing a one-year contract with the Saints right before the start of the 2016 regular season. Moore returned to the Saints on a one-year, $900,000 this past March but has been on and off of their roster this season.

In 2017, Moore has appeared in five games for the Saints and recorded five tackles, a forced fumble and two pass defenses.
