According to Ian Rapoport, Saints G Andrus Peat is currently out with a broken thumb.

Rapoport says it’s unclear when Peat will be able to return and it likely depends on whether he needs surgery. The Saints haven’t ruled out a return by Week 1.

Dan Graziano is told Peat is likely to miss two or three weeks with the injury and could be back by Week 1. The Athletic’s Jay Glazer says Peat is expected back within two weeks.

Peat had just re-signed with the Saints this offseason on a five-year, $57.5 million deal.

The next man up for the Saints is likely veteran G Nick Easton.

Peat, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Saints back in 2015. He was in the final year of his four-year, $11.393 million contract and stood to make a base salary of $1.988 million for the 2018 season when the Saints picked up his fifth-year option last year.

Peat signed a five-year, $57.5 million deal with the Saints after testing unrestricted free agency.

In 2019, Peat started 10 games for the Saints at left guard and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 69 guard out of 80 qualifying players.

We’ll have more on Peat as the news is available.
