Saints Officially Rule Out Drew Brees For Week 3, Starting Luke McCown

Saints HC Sean Payton announced Friday that starting QB Drew Brees will not play in this weekend’s game.

This, of course, means that Luke McCown will draw the start in Week 3’s game against the Panthers.

Ed Werder of ESPN reported earlier in the day that Brees still didn’t know if he could play Sunday, due to his rotator cuff injury, but he was working hard to get to that point.

It’s worth mentioning that this will be the first time Brees’ 15-year NFL career that he’s missed a game due to injury.

Brees, 36, has two years remaining on his five-year, $100 million contract that included $40 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $18.75 million and $19.75 million over the next two years.

This season, Brees has thrown for 610 yards while completing 62.8 percent of his passes to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
