Saints Release Veteran DT Tony McDaniel

The New Orleans Saints officially released veteran DT Tony McDaniel on Monday.

McDaniel, 32, originally signed on with the Jaguars back in 2006 as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee. After three years in Jacksonville, McDaniel was traded to the Dolphins in return for a seventh-round pick that ultimately became WR Julian Edelman.

McDaniel had brief stints with the Seahawks and Buccaneers before he signed a one-year, $1 million contract this past June. Unfortunately, New Orleans released coming out of the preseason, but he managed to sign on with the 49ers a few months later. San Francisco cut him loose after one month and he caught on with the Saints in December.

The Saints placed McDaniel on injured reserve last month.

In 2017, McDaniel appeared in five games for the 49ers and Saints and recorded eight tackles, no sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense.
