Saints Release WR Marques Colston

The New Orleans Saints officially released veteran WR Marques Colston on Monday with a failed physical designation.

Previous reports had said that this move was coming at some point in the near future, so this shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

The Saints are once again in a tough cap situation and have already veteran G Jahri Evans and are expected to make more moves including cutting CB Brandon Browner at the start of free agency.

Colston, 32, was in the final year of his five-year, $36.3 million contract that included $17.7 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $3.2 million for the 2016 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $3.2 million in available cap space while creating $2.7 million in dead money.

In 2015, Colston appeared in 13 games and caught 45 passes for 520 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
