Saints Rework WR Michael Thomas & LT Terron Armstead’s Contracts For Cap Room

Nick Underhill of NewOrleansFootball.com reports that the Saints have restructured the contracts of WR Michael Thomas and LT Terron Armstead on Wednesday to create some additional cap space.

New Orleans reworked the contracts of LB Kiko Alonso and CB Patrick Robinson yesterday for cap space.

According to Underhill, the Saints will leave CB Janoris Jenkins’ deal unchanged for now, but it could be a move they make later if need be.

Thomas, 26, was drafted by the Saints in the second round out of Ohio State in 2016. He was entering the final year of a four-year, $5.118 million rookie contract when he agreed to a five-year, $100 million extension last July.

He was named the Associated Press 2019 Offensive Player of the Year last month.

In 2019, Thomas appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and caught 149 passes for 1,725 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 3 overall receiver out of 122 qualifying players.

Armstead, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Saints back in 2013. He’s entering the final year of his six-year, $65.25 million contract that included $25 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $10.15 million for 2020.

In 2019, Armstead has appeared in 15 games for the Saints and starting all of them at left tackle. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
