Seahawks Believe Russell Wilson Would Like To Play Elsewhere?

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, reports that the Seahawks think QB Russell Wilson would like to play elsewhere, even if it’s something he would never admit to.

According to Florio, the Seahawks believe this will cause Wilson to drive a harder bargain in negotiations than he would with another team.

Multiple reports have said that the Seahawks are in talks with Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers, about a long-term deal.

Florio says that under the right financial circumstances, Wilson will sign another contract with the Seahawks. However, should Seattle not pay him the kind of money he’s seeking, Florio wonders if he would want the same kind of money from another team.

The two parties are getting close to Wilson’s self-imposed deadline to negotiate a deal of April 15.

The Seahawks could franchise Wilson next year for around $30.6 million or so and then follow that up with another franchise tag in 2021 at over $35 million.

Wilson, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2012. He’s entering the final year of his five-year, $89.142 million contract that included $60 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $17 million for the 2019 season.

Wilson will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

In 2018, Wilson appeared in all 16 games completed 65.6 percent of his passes for 3,448 yards, 35  touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 376 yards.

We’ll have more regarding Wilson as the news is available.

  1. If the GMEN are looking in Russell Wilson’s direction as their QB of the future. The GMEN should offer their 2019 3rd rounder #95 as a starting point for Russell Wilson. Remember! Russell Wilson is going to be 31 soon. Then a 5 year/$155M deal with $100M guaranteed should get the deal sealed. This way the GMEN will catch no negativity with the quick departure of Elisha Manning. Plus! Wilson’s wife Ciara wants to be in NY, like the ‘ole saying goes, “happy wife, happy life”.

Personally! I have mentioned this numerous times in the past. The new QB for the GMEN will be Cam Newton. There are numerous reasons that Newton will be a member of the GMEN before Wilson will. The 5 reasons are as follows:

1.) The Panthers have new ownership and the new regime have already interviewed potential QB prospects in the upcoming draft.
2.) The GMEN OC is Mike Shula, the same OC that Newton had a lot of success with in Carolina.
3.) Newton became a very rich man when Gettleman was the GM of the Panthers.
4.) History always has a way of repeating itself.
5.) And Cam Newton becomng a GMEN will be proof.

      • NO WAY!!!!! “Both 2019 1st round picks minimum”. The GMEN got a 2019 1st, 3rd and a safety (that has far, far, far less talent then Landon Collins) for Beckham. The GMEN should offer their 2019 3rd and second 5th round pick for Wilson. That is the same value the Steelers got in return for 30 year old ALL-PRO WR Antonio Brown.

Russell Wilson was a 3rd rounder in 2012. And is due a new top dollar deal. No team, especially the GMEN will part with either of their 2019 1st rounders, both GMEN 2019 firsts 6 and 17 will never happen. Remember! Wilson had the best defense L.O.B. for about 5 years straight, including those 2 SB trips and Beast Mode Lynch at RB toting the pill.

The Bears got more from the Raiders in the Khalil Mack deal. The Bears got Khalil Mack, a 2020 2nd and a 2020 5th. The Raiders got hosed, getting back a 2019 1st (27), a 2020 1st (which will be just as low or lower then 27) and a 2020 3rd rounder and cap relief.

        • You realize AB isnt a QB and is a diva who Pittsburgh just wanted to get rid of, right!? If you think Seattle would trade him for a 3rd rounder, or a 3rd & 5th, you must not know very much about sports.

  2. 135m all guaranteed. Gives him highest guaranteed contract in league and at an average of 33.75m per year. The key is obviously years and guaranteed money.
If this isn’t good enough he probably does want out of Seattle. Hopefully Seattle pulls the trigger. Otherwise this could be an ugly breakup.
