Seahawks DL Jesse Williams To Undergo Kidney Surgery Following Cancer Diagnosis

The Seattle Seahawks announced Monday that DL Jesse Williams will undergo kidney surgery after he was diagnosed with Papillary Type 2 cancer.

Williams released a statement regarding the situation:

Although disappointing, I am a fighter and will handle this. I am going to focus on my health and fighting this battle with a return to football as my ultimate goal. Thank you for your thoughts and support. Go Hawks!

Seahawks GM John Schneider also released a statement following the news:

Jesse is an extraordinarily tough individual who has overcome a great deal in his life and we will support him in any way possible. He is in our thoughts and prayers.”

Seattle re-signed Williams to a contract in early April.

Williams, 24, is a former fifth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2013 out of Alabama. He had two years remaining on his four-year, $2.37 million rookie contract when the Seahawks waived him a few weeks ago.

Williams has yet to appear in an NFL game after he spent the first two years of his career on Seattle’s injured reserve list.
