According to Josina Anderson, free-agent QB Geno Smith says he’s re-signing with the Seahawks.
Seattle released Smith this weekend during roster cuts but will bring him back as its No. 2 quarterback.
Some teams made the decision to release veteran players before the deadline to cut rosters down to 53 players in order to prevent their salaries from being guaranteed. It’s possible this was part of the Seahawks’ thinking in releasing Smith.
Smith, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $5.019 million contract before signing a one-year contract worth $2 million with the Giants in 2017.
Smith later signed a one-year deal with the Chargers for the 2018 season before joining the Seahawks this past May.
In 2018, Smith appeared in four games for the Chargers and completed 1 of 4 pass attempts for eight yards while also losing a fumble.
