Seahawks S Earl Thomas Removed From PUP List, Expected To Play In Week 1

Field Yates of ESPN reports that Seahawks S Earl Thomas (shoulder) officially passed his physical on Wednesday and has been removed from the team’s active/PUP list.

  • A source tells Adam Schefter“I’d be shocked if he doesn’t play week 1.

Thomas was able to participate in individual drills during the Seahawks OTA’s, and there was some talk not too long ago that his status for the season opener could be in question. However, it looks like he has a decent shot of suiting up at the start of the season.

Thomas, 26, signed a five-year, $44.725 million contract that included $27.725 million guaranteed with the Seahawks in April of last year. He stands to make a base salary of $5.5 million for the upcoming season.

In 2014, Thomas appeared in all 16 games for the Seahawks and recorded 97 tackles, one interception, three forced fumbles and six pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 5 safety out of 87 qualifying players.
