“Sky Judge” Proposals Being Withdrawn

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that both of the “sky judge” proposals are being withdrawn prior to tomorrow’s virtual meeting on rule changes.

According to Pelissero, the NFL is still expected to test some expanded booth-to-official communication system in the preseason. However, this will not include an officiating personnel addition for the 2020 season.

The NFL was considering testing a “sky judge” during the preseason, but it appears as though the league has pushed pause on the idea for at least the upcoming season.

The Competition Committee’s report from last month mentioned that they support further analysis of on-field officials being assisted by officiating personnel who have access to a video feed.

The pass interference replay rule instituted last year is dead and after the Competition Committee didn’t even discuss keeping it in recent meetings.

We’ll have more regarding NFL rule changes as the news is available.
