Steelers Interested In Keeping S J.J. Wilcox, Possibly On Restructured Deal

Jeremy Fowler reports that the Steelers recently expressed interest in bringing back S J.J. Wilcox, who has come as a potential cap casualty in recent weeks.

According to Fowler, nothing finalized is right now, but Wilcox a candidate to return on a restructured contract.

Wilcox and S Mike Mitchell along with some other defensive backs have been tossed out as players who could be on the chopping block this offseason. However, it sounds like Pittsburgh is open to exploring all of their options with Wilcox if he’s willing to negotiate his salary.

Wilcox, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Cowboys back in 2013. He has played out his four-year, $2,811,068 contract with the Cowboys before signing a two-contract with the Buccaneers worth up to $8.5 million.

The Buccaneers traded him to the Steelers at the start of the 2017 season for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Wilcox stands to make a base salary of $3.125 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Wilcox appeared in 12 games for the Steelers and recorded 12 tackles, one interception and a pass defense.

We’ll have more regarding Wilcox as the news is available.
