Steelers Restructured OT Willie Colon’s Contract

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Pittsburgh Steelers have restructured the contract of OT Willie Colon in an attempt to create some much needed cap space.

Colon was set to make a $4.5 million base salary that counted as $5.7 million against this season’s cap. Bouchette mentioned that Pittsburgh has lowered his base salary down to the league minimum of $700,000 and the remaining $3.8 million has been converted into a bonus that will be prorated for the next four years. Essentially, this move will save them $2.85 million in cap space for the upcoming year.

There’s still plenty of work to be done and previous reports have mentioned that Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Polamalu could both have their deals reworked in the near future.
