Now that the Patriots have dealt Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings, they can now work on finding a big-play receiver that can help them spread the field. Some have suggested that Bill Belichick plans on using Brandon Tate in Moss’s spot butย Jay Glazer of FoxSports.com offers up an interesting suggestion.
Glazer tweeted that the Patriots could reach out to the Carolina Panthers about the availability of WR Steve Smith. The Panthers are currently 0 – 4 and are in theย beginning stages of their rebuilding mode. New England has been collecting draft picks for the last three years now and will have multiple selections inย the first four-rounds of the 2011 draft. This could be a goodย opportunityย for the Panthers to acquire some more draft picks for next years draft. Smith is currently out with an ankle sprain but should be back in a week or two.
It would be hard to imagine that the Patriots would be reluctant to part with a package of draft picks in return for Smith.

This answers my question I posed earlier. Now I can understand why the Patriots gave up Moss for a Draft pick. Very smart move indeed.
