Steven Jackson Will Most Likely Void His Contract Following The Season

Jim Thomas of the St Louis Post-Dispatch writes that it’s unlikely that RB Steven Jackson is back and playing under his $7 million player option next season.

Thomas expects Jackson to void his contract and test the market. Jackson should be able to secure more than $7 million in guarantees on the open market, despite the fact that he’s an aging running back.

Jackson mentioned that he wasn’t bothered by the recent trade rumors that had been circulating for a number of weeks.

“I was very aware of the trade speculation and what was going on,” said Jackson. “But one thing about me, and even going back to my holdout (in 2008), I understand that this is a business. And if a particular team has options, or is taking phone calls, it doesn’t mean they want to get rid of me.”

We have Jackson listed as the No. 11 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
