Texans & Jets In Trade Market For Running Backs

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans and Jets are actively looking for running backs in the trade market leading up to Saturday’s deadline to cut rosters down to 53 players.

The Texans lost Lamar Miller for the season due to an ACL tear, so it’s not surprising to hear that they’re looking for some depth at the position.

Houston did acquire Duke Johnson in a trade with the Browns, there are still questions about their backfield. The Texans other running backs consist of Damarea Crockett, Karan Higdon, Buddy Howell and Taiwan Jones.

Some have speculated that Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake could be part of a Jadeveon Clowney trade, but recent reports have said Clowney isn’t interested in playing for Miami.

The Jets have Le’Veon Bell at the top of their depth chart to go along with Bilal Powell and Ty Montgomery. New York waived Elijah McGuire Friday.

If the Jets are, in fact, in the market, it would appear to be an indication that Powell’s job isn’t safe.

The most notable running back who could be available trade may be Melvin Gordon, who is holding out for a new contract.

The best available free agent option has been Jay Ajayi, but he’s working his way back from a knee injury and has drawn very little interest up to this point.

We’ll have more regarding potential trades involving the Texans and Jets as the news is available.
