Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Texans have placed CBย Kevin Johnson on injured reserve after he suffered another concussion in Week 1’s loss to the Patriots.
On Monday, Texans HCย Bill O’Brien said that Johnson would miss a “significant amount of time.”
“It’s concerning. He will be out for a while,” O’Brien said of Johnson, per Aaron Wilson.
Sourcesย tell Ian Rapoport that Johnson is expected to be out at least four weeks and potentially as much as sixย weeks, which makes him a candidate for injured reserve with the designation to return.
Johnson, 25, is a former first-round pick out of Wake Forest by the Texans in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was entering the final year of his four-year,ย $10.04 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,805,373 for the 2018 season.
The Texans picked up Johnson’sย fifth-year option back in April, which will cost them $9,069,000 for the 2019 season.
In 2017, Johnson appeared in 12 games for the Texans and recordedย 45 total tackles, no interceptions, and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the last overall cornerback out of 121 players.
