Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Texans and OLB Whitney Mercilus just reached agreement on a four-year deal.
Schefter says Mercilus receives a four-year contract worth $54 million and includes $28.5 million guaranteed.
Mercilus was one of the Texans’ top free agents that needed to be addressed and it appears as though they were able to hammer out an extension before the start of free agency next March.
Mercilus, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Texans back in 2012. He was in the final year of his five-year, $27.431 million contract that included $10.8 million guaranteed.
Mercilus was in line to be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.
In 2019, Mercilus has appeared in all 15 games for the Texans and recorded 48 tackles, 7.5 sacks, two interceptions, four forced fumbles, a recovery and two passes defended.
We had him featured in our Top 50 – 2020 Free Agents list.
