Texans Trade QB T.J. Yates To The Falcons For LB Akeem Dent

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that the Texans have traded QB T.J. Yates to the Falcons in return for LB Akeem Dent.

  • The Falcons have already confirmed the trade.

This comes as a surprise given that reports from just a few days ago mentioned that the Texans were releasing Yates.

According to Florio, once word got out that Houston was prepared to release Yates, multiple teams reached out to the Texans regarding a trade.

Florio mentions that even though Atlanta was towards the top of the waiver order, a team positioned behind them could have traded for Yates, so the Falcons obviously wanted to get this deal done.

Yates, 27, still has one year remaining on his four-year, $2.416 million contract. He appeared in three games last season and completed 68.2 percent of his passes for 113 yards and two interceptions.

Dent, 26, is also entering the final year of his contract and is set to make a base salary of $725,000 for the 2014 season.

Last year, he appeared in 15 games for the Falcons and recorded 51 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a pass defensed.
